Halloween 2009

Since we’re new to the neighborhood and wanted to meet Glen Alps’ residents, we decided to do some “traditional” trick or treating on the 31st. Since the temperatures had dipped, task #1 was to find a costume that would fit over a snowsuit! On a quick walk through a thrift shop, we spotted a dragon outfit sized for a 4-year old, for only $7. Just the ticket! So Mr. T, by default, got to be a fire-breathing, flying monster. (A little nick-name I have for him, acquired when he was just a little nugget and would try to eat our toes, is “Monster”, from Courtney’s chant of “Oh no, here comes the Baby Monster to eat my toes!” So the costume was appropriate.)

We drove from house to house in the neighborhood just south of us, which, being rural, was the best way to do it on a cold night. Those houses are NOT spaced closely! Also, being rural, we knew that very few people, if anyone, would expect trick-or-treaters. They choose to live at the end of civilization for a reason, so it wasn’t a huge surprise to find few people at home and/or willing to open the door. But we did meet a handful of nice neighbors, who even gave us good candy, and were glad to meet the new caretakers of the nearby trailheads.
