(The sad part is that the new owner had some basic repairs done on it right before he came to pick it up, and it ran better then than it had in YEARS. So how come the repair shop could never make it run well for us when WE brought it in on OUR dime? Same place! Hmmm…. And here we were convinced it needed a new engine….)

VW Bus Memories
One of the hardest parts of the summer, for Courtney at least, was selling his VW bus. We went through major downsizing and the bus was part of it! We will miss it (getting my VW bus dream at least partly satisfied was one of the perks of marrying Courtney), but not the payments to the repair shop or the storage fees, or the safety issues. With nothing between the front seat and a head-on collision but a rusted piece of metal, I started feeling pretty mortal while riding in it once we started having kids. Not to mention that it’s not equipped with seatbelts in back and can’t accommodate child car seats. No way, I say! With a big infusion of cash we would’ve liked to really fix it up and use it in our later parenting and empty nesting years, but that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon and until then it was a bit of a dead weight. So long, our bus. As Courtney used to say, “The bus will never abandon us.” And then I would retort, “No, but it might stay in one place and we’ll have to abandon IT!” Ah.
